PROFESSOR (MRS.) USEN GODWIN IKPE AN ARDENT ADMINISTRATOR

 Professor Usen Godwin Ikpe is a Professor of Educational Management and Planning in the Faculty of Education, University
of Uyo. She is also the Chairman, Dora-Paul Empowerment Initiatives, an outfit that has impacted and molded many career
paths through consultancy and human capacity development. She believes in hard work and excellence. Born on 13th July,
1960 in Ikot Obiokoi, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria; She attended Government School
Ikot Obio Itong, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area from 1966 to 1972 and later proceeded to Secondary Commercial
School, Ibekwe, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area from 1973-1978. In 1983, Prof. Ikpe proceeded to the University of
Calabar where she obtained her B.A (Hon) Education in 1986. She equally had her Masters’ Degree in Curriculum Studies in
1990 from the same University. Determined to make real impact in her chosen profession, she proceeded to the University of
Port Harcourt and obtained her Ph.D in Educational Management and Planning in 2005. Her quest for educational pursuit is
unparalleled as she is currently pursuing a degree in Law.


 Prof. Usen G. Ikpe began her career in the Federal Civil Service at the University of Uyo in 1992. While at
the University, she undertook the responsibility of promoting human capacity development in the University community through
teaching and research.


 Prof. Usen G. Ikpe was Chairman of Chairmen of Boards, Parastatal and Commissions of Akwa Ibom State during her
tenure as the Executive Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Technical Schools Board between 2008 and 2011. One of her most
distinctive achievement as a Board Chairman of Akwa Ibom Scholarship Board was that she developed and refined a
transparent process to eliminate the challenges of selecting qualified candidates, and as well, brought foreign
expatriate for the training of teachers/students on the construction, installation and maintenance of solar powers
in the six Technical Colleges in Akwa Ibom State. It was this unique ability to adapt to new needs and circumstances
that made the solution she proffered so widely and inventively used to be recommended with an award of excellence by the
Governor. Also, during her tenure, 150 Akwa Ibom Youths were given scholarships to study Information and
Communication Technology in University in India for 3 years after she had returned from assessment tour in India. She has
equally served in many other capacities across the State, among them: Special Adviser for Women and Co-operative,
Etinan Local Government Area in 2004;
Member, Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee, Akwa Ibom State, from 2007 to 2011.

 Prof. Usen G. Ikpe is an astute academician. Highly prolific, she brought her wealth of experience to bear in
her numerous educational researches, journal publications, paper presentations and books. She has attended
several conferences both within and outside the country. She is also a columnist with State- owned daily
Newspaper, The Pioneer Newspaper. Some of her publications include: Accountability for Classroom
Teachers and Programmes Evaluation in Nigeria’s Higher Educational System; Educational Productivity:
Myths and realities; Supervision of Vocational Education in Technical Colleges in the Context of the
Universal Basic Education for Sustainable Development in Nigeria, among many others. Her books are: The
Demands for a Modern Teacher 2005; Co-published books titled; Innovative Formula (C+M+A= Q) for
Teaching and Learning English Language, Mathematics and Basic Science in JSS 1 – 3 (Teachers’ Guide and
Students’ Workbook); and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development.


 Prof. Usen G. Ikpe is a Member of the following educational and professional bodies: British Educational
Leadership and Management Association (BELMAS); Association for Promoting Quality Education in
Nigeria (APQEN); Nigerian Education Research Reporters Association (NERRA); Inter African Committee
(IAC) Nigeria, National Association of Educational Administration and Planning (NEAP); and Vice President,
South-South (2016) – National Association of Teachers of Technology (NATT). She is also a member of
National Council for Women Society (NCWS). Her excellent performances in Academics and Outstanding
contributions to society generally have not gone unnoticed as several Organizations have accorded her with
various awards.


 Prof. Usen G. Ikpe is an Amazon, an accomplished academician, an ardent administrator and educationist of
repute. She is creative and accommodating with particular interest in societal and entrepreneurial development
among youths and women in South-South Geopolitical Zone and in
Nigeria as a Country. She is the Founder of an International NGO called Dora-Paul Empowerment Initiative;
Prof. Usen G. Ikpe is happily married and the marriage is blessed with four lovely children. Her hobby
includes Reading, Writing, Researching and Jogging.


 Prof. Usen G. Ikpe is immediate past member, University of Uyo Governing Council.
